Tasked with designing a new design school atop New York University’s Elmer Holmes Bobst Library, this project addresses hybridity through notions of appropriation and unoriginal originality. The design invokes techniques of phenomenal transparency and confused boundaries to not only design a new form atop an original, but also a new identity to erase a past symbol.

Tasked with designing a new design school atop New York University’s Elmer Holmes Bobst Library, this project addresses hybridity through notions of appropriation and unoriginal originality. The design invokes techniques of phenomenal transparency and confused boundaries to not only design a new form atop an original, but also a new identity to erase a past symbol.
The result is a highly graphic backdrop to the social forum of Greenwich Village’s Washington Square Park. Within the building, students are caught between scalloped surfaces and slipped windows.
